With most of my technology writing focused on development and Internet issues, I've found my stuff starting to appear in a large number of places.
I started out writing for the shortlived UK Internet magazine Online World. It lasted three issues and then died spectacularly due to the publishing company disappearing in a puff of smoke with all the money... However, it did lead to a job running the technology side of an ISP, so those hours slaving over a hot (and they were very hot thanks to the batteries Apple had chosen) PowerBook weren’t wasted.
I then graduated to reviews and the occasional feature for PC Plus (where I currently write their monthly XML Masterclass). Over the years I've also written for PC Answers, PC Advisor and Demon Despatches. One long relationship was with Future Publishing's SME Internet business magazine Internet Works.
These days most of my copy is for SIG's European developer title, Application Development Advisor, where I write the Internet Development Column. PDF versions of recent columns and features can usually be found there.
You'll have also seen my name in Object Magazine (now Component Sources), XML Insider, Network News, IT Week, Computing, Practical Internet and various titles from Oakworth Publications - and occasionaly newspapers like the Guardian. I have also produced guidelines for the NCC.
You’ll find samples of my words here in the shape of a selection of reviews and columns in this section of the site, as well as the WAP Workshop and Web Workshop series I produced for PC Plus. Just follow the links to read more on everything from XML to the next generation of Internet developments. There are also presentations that I’ve given at conferences and at user group and professional body meetings.
I specialise in Internet development and communications, but also have a strong interest in distributed applications development and Java. Comissions are always welcome! Just drop me a line...
